Ambica provided a technical lead role and web development within AMS (Application Maintenance Support) to maintain a number of Windows and Web applications. Technology used was:

  • Windows 2003 servers
  • IIS (Internet Information Server) 6.0
  • Local PCs running Windows 2003 Server
  • Visual Studio .NET
  • ASP.NET 1.1
  • VB.NET
  • HTML
  • XML web services
  • SQL Server 2000 T-SQL, stored procedures and DTS.

The following ASP.NET applications were maintained and enhanced:

  • SDeForms: Added more error handling, fixed date validation problem, changed application so that it did not use Government Gateway and added FormGuard graphic to upload page to allow anonymous access from a public site.
  • SDeFormsReader: Inherited support of this Windows VB.NET application that allowed users to create contracts from PDF forms and to load data into the SIS application. Added ability to pick which field to upload to SIS and updated contract creation program to work with latest PDF form and contract.
  • Customs to HMI Internet Link for Live Information (CHILLI): Updated SQL Server 2000 Data Transformation Services (DTS) packages (that load data from an Ingres application and from HM Customs and Revenue's CHIEF system) to work in a production environment. Quality assured application including improving the error handling. Made changes to application to allow storage of report spreadsheet template within database and changed third country report so that it only selected type 16 inspections and excluded automatic PEACH inspections.
  • TRACES Risk Messaging System (TRMS): Added error handling.
  • England Rural Development Program (ERDP) FAQ: This was the first .NET web application developed within Defra. It was updated to use the latest Defra IT strategy template and common code, including adequate error handling.
  • Intelligent Customer Function (ICF) Project Repository: This was the second implementation of the DWA . Role was to make sure development, system test, pre-production and production web sites were set up correctly and to liaise with the users.
  • External Funders Mapping: Added public feedback form and administrator feedback results page, including export of results to Excel.
  • DWA : Fixed miscellaneous bugs found by users and reported by error handling messaging mechanism. Also added list of users who do not have email addresses to site administrator's private home page.
